The new consignment of 2,653 tonnes of essential humanitarian assistance was sent to the Gaza Strip on Tuesday through the Egyptian Red Crescent as its 290th relief convoy to the blockaded region. The latest round of supply provides essential supplies of food packs, flour, medicine, emergency shelter materials, and fuel needed for the functioning of hospitals and other infrastructure.

The dispatch is carried out in line with the national “Zad Al-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza” relief mission. It comes in response to the serious humanitarian situation prevailing among the population of the enclave. The Egyptian Red Crescent acts as the main coordinating agency for humanitarian assistance from Egypt to Gaza.

Egyptian relief teams and a network of roughly 75,000 national volunteers have maintained a continuous operational presence at the Rafah border crossing, operating around the clock to organize supply lines since the onset of military hostilities in October 2023. Total humanitarian supplies delivered through Egyptian channels have crossed one million tonnes, representing more than 70 percent of overall aid provided to the territory throughout the conflict. Official records document a heavy casualty toll from the ongoing war, with reported figures reaching 74,245 deaths and 175,267 injuries, primarily among women and children.

To maintain continuous supply operations, international aid coordination teams continuously monitor logistics corridors and evaluate border crossing security protocols to maximize the daily passage of life-saving provisions.

Alongside the latest convoy, a seasonal relief initiative titled “Hand in Hand… Support and Safety” was launched by the Egyptian Committee for Relief of Gaza Residents. Designed to mitigate severe winter weather risks for vulnerable communities, the seasonal drive targets displacement camps by fortifying temporary shelters and coordinating specialized winterization convoys ahead of falling temperatures.

The ongoing military campaign enters its third year this Wednesday, amid widespread infrastructure destruction, mass displacement, and continuing shortages of basic provisions across the coastal enclave.
