The Egyptian government plans to send mobile delegates from the Civil Status Organization to diplomatic embassies and consulates in nine different countries beginning in October. This is part of a series of steps that will help make the process of obtaining civic documents, such as the issue, renewal, and reissuance of the national ID cards, easier for millions of people residing overseas. The project was initiated by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior. This is in response to repeated demands made by many citizens from their respective communities in the Arab region and Europe for the provision of such services at their diplomatic missions abroad.
The consular rollout begins in early autumn across the Middle East before expanding into Europe. Field teams will first operate in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates—covering both Abu Dhabi and Dubai—from October 3 to 13. High-density Egyptian communities in Qatar, Lebanon, and Kuwait will receive consular services from October 17 to 27, followed by delegations in Saudi Arabia, visiting Jeddah and Riyadh from October 31 to November 10. The European phase of the campaign follows shortly after, with mobile units visiting Greece and Italy between November 14 and 24, before concluding their schedule in France from November 28 through December 8.
The initiative formulates part of a broader government digital and administrative modernization agenda. By standardizing consular procedures and deploying specialized technical units globally, Egyptian ministries aim to keep civil databases up-to-date while reducing bureaucratic friction for citizens living outside the country.
Civil status officials will process first-time applicants, handle routine card renewals, replace stolen or misplaced identity documents, and register official record modifications. Diplomats urge community members to reach out to local consular headquarters prior to the delegation arrivals to confirm appointment procedures, documentation prerequisites, and exact operational hours.
Additionally, Egyptian nationals residing in nearby countries without dedicated field visits are permitted to submit identity applications at neighboring host missions, provided they complete prior coordination with the destination consulate before traveling. Cairo News Agency
