Siemens inaugurated its new Electrification and Automation factory in Egypt, marking a strategic investment in the key technology that strengthens Siemens’ industrial footprint in one of the region’s fastest-growing markets. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior Egyptian government officials, including Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy and Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, alongside senior leadership from Siemens AG.
The facility will focus on localizing the production of critical energy technologies — including switchgear, substation control and monitoring systems, protection systems, and embedded cybersecurity solutions — to serve Egypt’s accelerating energy transition and expanding infrastructure needs.
Powering Egypt’s renewable energy ambitions
Egypt has raised its renewable energy target to 45 percent green energy by 2028. The facility’s product portfolio is purpose-built to support this ambition, serving both Egypt’s transmission and distribution networks and the rapidly growing renewable energy sector. With cybersecurity embedded directly into substation control systems, the technologies meet the highest international standards for the protection of critical energy infrastructure.
The facility directly supports Egypt’s National Industry Strategy (2024–2030), which identifies electrical and engineering industries as a priority sector for localization and increasing the industrial sector’s contribution to GDP. This investment follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Siemens and the Industrial Development Authority in September 2024 to advance local manufacturing of electrical products in Egypt. By manufacturing in-country, Siemens strengthens local supply chains and supports Egyptian engineering, procurement, and construction firms in delivering energy and infrastructure projects across Egypt, North Africa, and the broader African continent.
The Siemens Power Academy: building local expertise
The facility houses the Siemens Power Academy, a structured customer and workforce development initiative. Featuring purpose-built training rooms and education spaces, the Academy enables participants to learn in direct proximity to live production and technology demonstrations. In its first year, it aims to train professionals in the skills needed to design, operate, and maintain advanced energy infrastructure — building on a strong track record of investing in a variety of vocational training programs in Egypt.
The Academy is co-located alongside the factory floor and a dedicated Customer Experience Center. The Center enables customers, partners, and stakeholders to experience Siemens’ latest digital twin and IoT-based solutions for energy management and grid optimization — technologies that Egypt is actively adopting across its energy and infrastructure sectors.
Building on a transformative partnership
Siemens’ presence in Egypt dates back 125 years. Today, Siemens continues to deliver critical technology across Egypt’s infrastructure, industrial and energy sectors, including contributions to the country’s high-speed rail network, grid modernization programs, and the establishment of the Middle East’s first Industry 4.0 Innovation Center in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.
