Egypt eyes role as regional hub for medical tech and healthcare innovation

Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar discussed with officials of Mecomed Group ways to enhance cooperation in healthcare innovation, advanced medical technologies and capacity building for healthcare professionals.

During the meeting on Thursday, June 18, 2026, Abdel Ghaffar reaffirmed the state’s commitment to adopting the latest medical solutions and technologies to develop the healthcare system in line with international standards.

He noted that Egypt possesses the capabilities needed to strengthen its role as a regional hub for healthcare and medical innovation.

Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the discussions covered cooperation in promoting healthcare innovation, exchanging international expertise and developing policies supporting medical technologies, particularly in medical imaging and radiology.

The two sides also reviewed opportunities for developing healthcare workforce skills, advancing digital health capabilities, establishing regulations for tele-diagnosis, assessing health technologies, and accelerating access to advanced medical solutions.

The meeting highlighted the importance of leveraging Egypt’s experience to support African countries and reinforce its role as a regional center for expertise transfer and capacity building in radiology, contributing to stronger healthcare systems and sustainable development of health services across the continent.
